The Thank-You List Nobody Writes

Custom Image

Hi, I'm Alyssa — and this November I'm skipping the usual gratitude list.

Every November, my feed fills up with the same thank-you posts: family, health, a roof over our heads. I'm grateful for all of those too. But for my very first blog post, I wanted to introduce myself a little differently — by sharing the things I'm thankful for that never make it onto a holiday card.

First, the basics. I'm Alyssa Baker, team lead of Baker Key Team Real Estate. I've been helping buyers and sellers across Colorado for six years. I'm a wife to Zach, a mom to two amazing boys, and the person in charge of feeding three hungry dogs: two Labs and one very opinionated Pomeranian.

We recently moved back to the Thornton area after our time in Akron, and coming home has given me a lot to be thankful for — including some things that might surprise you.

My Unofficial Thank-You List

1. Muddy cleats by the back door. Between football, baseball, and wrestling, our entryway is never clean. Those cleats mean my boys are out there working hard, learning to win, and learning to lose. I'll take the mud.

2. Dog hair on everything. Three dogs means a lint roller in every car. It also means someone is always thrilled when I walk through the door after a long day of showings.

3. The meal that didn't turn out. I love to cook, and not every recipe is a winner. But the burnt casserole still gets everyone around the table, and that's the part that counts.

4. Bleacher seats. Cold metal, rain delays, and early Saturday mornings. Some of my favorite family memories come from the sidelines, and some of my best client conversations have too.

5. Long gravel driveways. Living in Akron taught me to love wide-open space, dirt roads, and the quiet you only get on land. It also made me a better agent for anyone dreaming of acreage.

6. The deals that almost fell apart. Every agent has stories of inspections, appraisals, and closing-day surprises. Those near-misses taught me to stay calm, think creatively, and fight hard for my clients.

What This Means for You

Here's the real estate lesson hiding in that list: the imperfect things are often the ones that matter most. That's how I approach every home and every piece of land I work with.

The creaky floor, the long commute to town, the field that needs work: none of those are deal-breakers when the property fits your life. My job is to help you see past the surface and find what actually matters to your family.

I work with:

  • Properties with land — horse property, hobby farms, and room to breathe
  • Vacant land — whether you're building your dream home or investing for the future
  • Residential homes — from first homes to forever homes
  • Relocations — I know what it's like to move a family, kids, and pets
  • Commercial properties — for business owners ready for their next step

From the Thornton suburbs to the eastern plains, I'm here to help you find a place you'll be thankful for, imperfections and all.

Your Turn

I'd love to hear what's on your unofficial thank-you list this year. Drop it in the comments, or tell me the next time you see me in the bleachers.

And if you're thinking about buying, selling, or finally finding that piece of land you've been dreaming about, let's grab a coffee and talk. I'll bring the lint roller.

Thank you for reading my very first blog. Here's to a November full of the messy, wonderful things.
