There’s something special about fall in Colorado. Crisp mornings, golden trees, pumpkin patches, cozy coffee shops, football, festivals, and those beautiful Rocky Mountain views make this one of my favorite times of year to enjoy everything the Denver metro area has to offer.
Whether you're looking for a fun family day, a date-night idea, a weekend adventure, or simply an excuse to get outside, here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy fall around Denver!
🎃 1. Get Lost in a Corn Maze & Pick the Perfect Pumpkin
Nothing says fall quite like a pumpkin patch and corn maze!
🌽 Anderson Farms — Erie
Anderson Farms
A longtime Colorado fall tradition, Anderson Farms offers a huge pumpkin patch, a 25-acre corn maze, wagon rides, and plenty of activities for families. They also offer Terror in the Corn for those looking for something a little scarier once the sun goes down.
🎃 Chatfield Farms — Littleton
Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms
Head southwest to Chatfield Farms for a beautiful fall setting with a large pumpkin patch and seasonal corn maze. The farm sits against the foothills, making it a great spot for fall photos too.
🌽 Maize in the City — Thornton
Maize in the City
If you're in the north metro area, Maize in the City is a fun option for a classic fall day with a large corn maze and pumpkin field.
🎃 Rock Creek Farm — Broomfield
Rock Creek Farm
For a more traditional farm experience, check out Rock Creek Farm. It's known for pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and plenty of open space for enjoying a beautiful Colorado fall day.
🍎 2. Go Apple Picking
Fall isn't just about pumpkins!
Take a drive toward Longmont and enjoy an autumn afternoon at an orchard. YA YA Farm & Orchard is known for apples, cider donuts, apple pies, apple butter, and warm-spiced cider.
Perfect fall afternoon:
🍎 Pick apples
☕ Grab some cider
🥧 Bring home an apple pie
📸 Take some family photos
🍺 3. Celebrate at Denver Oktoberfest
If you love good food, music, and a lively atmosphere, Denver Oktoberfest is a must!
The 2026 Denver Oktoberfest takes place September 18–20 and September 25–27 in the Ballpark District. Expect live music, German food, stein-hoisting, keg bowling, costume contests, and the famous Long Dog Derby.
📍 Larimer Street between 20th & 22nd
Grab your friends, put on your best fall outfit, and enjoy a fun night—or afternoon—downtown!
🍁 4. Take a Scenic Drive to See the Fall Colors
One of the best things about living in Colorado is that you don't have to travel far to see spectacular fall foliage.
Some popular scenic areas include:
- 🍂 Guanella Pass
- 🍂 Kenosha Pass
- 🍂 Peak to Peak Scenic Byway
- 🍂 Georgetown
- 🍂 Estes Park
- 🍂 Rocky Mountain National Park
Fall colors can arrive at different times depending on elevation, so one of the best strategies is to watch the foliage as it moves down from the higher elevations toward the metro area. Visit Denver notes that the region can offer fall colors from roughly mid-September through mid-November because of its range of elevations and climate zones.
Pro tip: Pack a thermos of coffee, bring your camera, and make a whole day out of it!
👻 5. Get Spooky for Halloween
If spooky season is your favorite season, Denver has plenty of options.
From haunted houses and haunted cornfields to Halloween festivals and family-friendly events, there's something for every level of bravery.
For something especially unique, Glow at the Gardens at Denver Botanic Gardens features an illuminated fall experience with pumpkins and imaginative displays.
And for the truly brave… haunted houses are waiting! 👻
☕ 6. Find Your New Favorite Fall Drink
Sometimes you don't need a big event. Sometimes all you need is a cozy coffee and a beautiful fall afternoon.
Denver coffee shops are getting creative with seasonal drinks this year, going beyond traditional pumpkin spice with flavors like maple, apple cider chai, caramel apple, sweet potato, and more.
☕ Grab a coffee
🍂 Take a walk
📖 Bring a book
🍁 Enjoy the changing leaves
Honestly, that sounds like a perfect fall day to me!
🥾 7. Go for a Fall Hike
Cooler temperatures make fall one of the best times to explore Colorado's trails.
Look for an easy-to-moderate trail near the foothills and enjoy the changing aspens, cottonwoods, and mountain views.
Some great areas to explore include:
- Bear Creek
- Golden
- Morrison
- Boulder
- Evergreen
- Estes Park
Just remember that Colorado weather can change quickly in the fall, so bring layers and check the forecast before heading out.
🧺 8. Have a Fall Picnic
You don't always have to spend money to enjoy the season.
Grab a blanket, pack some sandwiches, apple cider, and your favorite fall treats, and head to a local park.
Add a few pumpkins or a cozy blanket for a cute family photo—or make it a simple date afternoon.
Sometimes the simplest plans make the best memories. ❤️
🎨 9. Explore Denver's Fall Arts & Culture Scene
Fall is also a great time to explore Denver's museums, art galleries, markets, and cultural events.
This year, Denver's calendar includes events ranging from the Denver Film Festival to Denver Arts Week and special exhibitions at local museums.
It's a great reminder that fall isn't just about pumpkins—there's plenty happening indoors too!
